Benewake's TF series LiDAR modules enable non-contact detection in smart city and automation scenarios, covering smart trash bin overflow detection and lid triggering, automatic and rolling door sensing, projector auto-focus assistance, and access control and streetlight switching.

Smart Trigger

Smart trash bins are a niche product under the smart city concept, with their greatest advantage being "intelligence." By installing various sensors at the front end, they can detect temperature, humidity, odor, smoke, and more, while also achieving automatic overflow alarm functions. In other words, this trash bin can automatically sense whether the garbage inside is full and prompt sanitation workers to clear it in time.

Benewake's developed TF series LiDAR modules realize intelligent and contactless garbage classification, providing two detection solutions for trash bins (automatic lid opening detection + internal waste level height detection). Benewake's LiDAR products have been installed and applied in trash bins in many cities, enabling not only contactless garbage disposal but also real-time data transmission and docking with garbage collection vehicles when the waste level reaches 80%, ensuring seamless garbage collection and transportation.

Application of LiDAR in Smart Trash Bins

  1. Smart Lid Opening System: The product is equipped with an automatic lid opening system. When residents dispose of garbage, the Benewake LiDAR on the garbage pavilion automatically senses approaching people (installed diagonally downward to detect individuals taller than 130cm), automatically opening the lid. This effectively avoids hand contact with the trash bin, reduces bacterial contact transmission, and improves the comfort of garbage disposal for residents.
  2. Internal Waste Level Detection System: The LiDAR automatically detects the amount of garbage, installed on the inner lid of the trash bin, detecting directly downwards. When the waste level reaches 80%, it can transmit data in real-time to garbage collection vehicles for docking, ensuring seamless garbage collection and transportation.

Solution Advantages

  • Long recognition distance for black garbage, with a 2° detection angle, preventing false alarms caused by touching the bin walls;
  • Low power consumption <0.35W, supports battery power supply; 100Hz high-frequency precise real-time measurement, configurable parameters, meeting eye safety standards;
  • Plug-and-play, consumer-grade price, weighs less than a one-yuan coin, easy to install and integrate, modular structure, can add protective housing;
  • Smart garbage management helps reduce the overall collection and transportation costs of garbage management by nearly 50%.

LiDAR Control for Automatic Door Switching / Automatic Door Sensor

This solution involves using laser ranging radar to control automatic door switching information, especially in office areas, shopping malls, or factories with high foot traffic. Using wall-mounted buttons or pushing doors manually causes inconvenience, so an automated door opening solution is needed to reduce congestion and improve traffic convenience.

Rolling Door Switching LiDAR Trigger Solution

Install single-point LiDAR such as TF-Luna, TFmini Plus, or TF02-Pro above the rolling door, detecting the designated area diagonally downward. Products with different ranges can be selected based on installation height/angle. Mark points on the ground (radar spot positions can be observed with an infrared camera). Whenever a vehicle or person enters the marked point, distance changes determine entry, triggering the rolling door to open automatically. After the vehicle or person leaves the marked point, distance changes trigger the rolling door to close automatically.

Distance Debugging

First, fix the sensor and power it on; the red light on the sensor will illuminate. If an obstacle in front of the sensor is less than 0.2m or greater than 8m, the orange light will illuminate, indicating it is out of range. Place an obstacle directly in front of the sensor within the protection distance, long-press the SET key on the sensor (for more than 3 seconds), the red light will flash, and the green light will turn off, completing the distance setting.

After completing the distance setting, as long as there is an obstacle within the set distance, the green light on the sensor will illuminate, and a switch signal will be output via relay to the automatic door, realizing the open state. When the obstacle leaves, the door closes.

Note: The factory default protection distance is set to 2.5m, which can be reset according to usage requirements.

Customer Benefits

The low-cost rolling door switching LiDAR trigger solution achieves the goal of transitioning from manual to automatic control. It solves repetitive labor for workers caused by opening doors, indirectly improving work efficiency and enhancing the worker experience. Our LiDAR installed on customer rolling doors operates well, with precise detection and no false alarms, winning consistent praise from customers and workers.

Projector Auto-Focus Assistance / Elevator Projection Ad Switching Control

Install TF-Luna inside the projector for auto-focus/assistive focus after the projector is turned on, ensuring optimal projection effect and image quality. Elevator projection ads: The radar detects the distance to obstacles in front. If the distance is greater than the actual distance from the radar to the elevator door, the elevator door is considered open, and the projector does not need to start; otherwise, it starts.
